Easier sledding for new science, engineering teaching effort

Description

News article features the SLED project's Summer Institute activities for teachers:

"This week and next are a "dream come true" for associate professor Brenda Capobianco.

Capobianco is one of several Purdue University faculty members who will spend this week and next working alongside more than 40 teachers from four school districts as they incorporate engineering design elements into their curriculum.

The program is called SLED -- Science Learning through Engineering Design -- and is closing out its first year. Funded through a five-year grant from the National Science Foundation, the program was piloted at Lafayette Christian and Sunnyside Middle schools this spring.

"This is something I thought about five years ago," Capobianco said. "To see something that originated in a single classroom be scaled up ... it's a dream come true."
